Teen agers' attitude towards sport

In this context of the Fairplay-Fairsport project, a quantitative analysis was carried out on a sample of 720 students from a high school in Milan, Italy. The aim of the study was to gauge teen agers'views on sport as a goal. The teen-agers were presented with a Liberty questionnaire (on a scale of 4). Overall, most students have a goal opinion of sport in general, while only minority does not consider it as part of their life. Research results show 4 clusters, "Onlookers", approximately 1/3 of the sample (predominantly girls), like sport, though they don't like to practice it. ;Competitors", another 1/3 of the sample (predominantly boys) like to practice sport especially in competitions; "Idealists" 1/5 of the sample (with a clear male predominance) perceive sport as a funny way to establish new relationship; "Sceptics", less than 1/5 of the sample (with a slight female predominance), don't like sports.







The Sport Psychologist in the Soccer Youth Project

Sport is essential to promote the development of the youth and in Italy youth soccer activities involve hundred of thousands of young. The Italian Soccer Federation has introduced the role of the psychologis inside the soccer schools, to work with coaches and sport managers. Goal of this study is to present a professional approach permitting the sport psychologist to work effectively inside this kind of reality. Usually psychological programs have seen the psychologists involved with the sport of high level and very few systematic approach have been proposed for the youthsport programs. At the cintrary they represent a good work opportunity for the psychologistswho wany to use and improve their competences in sport psychology , otherwise the psychologis risks to propose only a general progran related to the developmental psychology: The 4 approach propose integrates the program by Smith and Smolt (/1976,2002), the theoretical model of goal orientation (duda and Gall, 2001), the coach role model (Cei, 2002; Salmela, 1996)with the professional experiences made in this field and with the Italian Soccer Federation by the author.
